More to Wine About...

Ha ha!  We had a glorious day at Rosemont Winery not too long ago and were allowed to go into the vineyards and take pictures.  I still have several more that I want to paint from and am learning new techniques along the way - many thanks to Deb Hanes-Nelson!  The first two paintings are done on Fabriano Artistico 140 lb cold press.  The last one is done on Fabriano Artistico 300 lb cold press - it works similarly to hot press in that it's smooth surface doesn't allow for much lifting or movement once the paint dries before the next layer.  I'm learning to like it.  Which is your favorite, and why???

Hey Andrea!

I'm mostly an Arches 140# CP girl, but I've been working with Fabriano 140# CP recently (Laurie swears by Fabriano, I believe). It's a lot warmer in color that the Arches (it's natural, not the bright white version). I don't think it can take the beating that Arches can, but if I manage to get my washes down quickly, there is a beautiful freshness to the look of the paint on the paper. Plus I like the interesting texture.

Hey Kristen! Lovely to hear from you. I've been buying the big rolls of paper - get many, many more paintings out of them with very little waste. So right now I have roll of Archers 140 lb hot press and Fabriano 140 lb cold press. It will be awhile before I buy paper again, but I have recently learned that the best paper for lifting is GEMINI by Strathmore. Anxious to check it out!!!
