I had the privilege to be one of the Judges for the Painting/Mixed Media category with Anna Hogbin and Kat Cimaglio. The Awards Ceremony was held 5/6/2013 at the Holiday Inn. An estimated 1,000 students, parents, teachers, and sponsors attended! The artwork (in all forms) was amazing. And the "Best of Show" was a video by Matthew Keanu (Jefferson HS) with an antimated stick man - it was great!!! Students came from high schools in all 3 counties of the Eastern Panhandle of WV. Kudos to Vicki Jenkins, Director of James Rumsey Technical Institute and Peggy Talley, Chair of the VIZZI Committee (along with the many, many people who helped make this event possible)! Click here for more information about the VIZZI program. This is such a fabulous setting for an art show! Located in Millwood, VA - just off Rte 50 near Berryville and Winchester. The show is open thru May 12th. 300+ artists and 1000 pieces of incredible artwork! I'm tickled to be a part of it! The Jefferson County Photography Project is a group of photographers photographing the people, places, landscapes and events of Jefferson County. The uniqueness of this project is that the photographers are shooting only in black and white film, and all photographs in the exhibition are silver prints made in the traditional chemical based darkroom.
The project, designed and directed by local photographer Benita Keller, is in keeping with the masters of fine art photography, such as Alfred Stieglitz, Henri Cartier-Bresson and Robert Frank. The photographers goal is to utilize their personal artistic interpretation of their subject matter. The artists include: Heidi Geraci, Amanda Hamlin-Lewis, Krista Healey-Schaefer, Stephen Schaefer, Carl Schultz, Sue Silver, Kristian Thacker, Deborah Westphal, and Benita Keller, director. The project has been funded for three years by The Arts and Humanities Alliance of Jefferson County (AHA!) and the West Virginia Commission of the Arts. In 2012 "The Jefferson County Photography Project" produced a limited edition book of the photographs. The book will be available for sale at the exhibition. |
