I had the pleasure of touring this awesome show in Danville, VA with 4 Lovely Ladies! We had just a perfect day. Unfortunately, they do not allow photos inside the fabulous homes, but I was able to take some inside the Museum, and in outdoor gardens, of course. The arrangements you see posted here were posted on Facebook by the various Garden Clubs - I can't take credit for them, but I do hope you enjoy them as much as we did! The homes had all been converted to multi-unit dwellings mid-century and the current owners restored them back to their original glory, down to the tiniest detail. The stained glass windows and artwork were my favorite! The Garden Clubs did the flower arrangements and also provided tours within each section of each home. Was really a fun day! We had lunch at the Ginger Bread House, and then went back for reception at Supply Resources - same man who owns house #4 on our tour completed renovated this old warehouse building into a Class A office and meeting space. Just kidding! Here are three more Hellebore paintings for the series of 6 for the Prizery Show. I would appreciate feedback on the backgrounds. These were taken at the nursery very close up - so actual backgrounds are blurred, or more little bitty plants in little bitty pots. I've included the other 3 in the series, too - just so you can have more backgrounds to choose from. Thank you!!!
I am finally finished with this painting after 3 complete attempts and extensive critiques!!! Whew! It's a million steps forward for me - probably still several 100,000 steps away from achieving the results of Susan Harrison-Tustain, but she's been doing it her way for a long, long time! This is all brand new to me! And that's OK!!! Drum roll....here it is:
I've probably said this 1,000 times already - maybe even 2,000 - but we LOVE living here! Smallest town we have ever lived in with a heart the size of New York City!!! Our Chamber does a fabulous job of putting together so many wonderful events throughout the year and folks come in from all over to enjoy them!!! This weekend there was the Halicraft Festival in Halifax, VA - about 30 miles from here, so I stopped there first. Then I came back to Clarksville and went to the Quilt Show at the church, saw the Seaplanes down on the lake; enjoyed the artshow downtown, and then went to the 9th Annual Wine Festival!!! Grab a cup of coffee and enjoy the pictures! You couldn't smack the smile off my face! Finished another Hellebore. The other one I want to do over again - there is a trick to using watercolor pencils and sand paper - it makes really cool effects, but 1) must be very careful where you put the water down before sanding and 2) would be much better to do this the very last so that you don't risk touching it with water and making it smear! I still really like the effects and this one is worth doing over again. In the meantime - I can call this good to go:
Another Hellebore finished - yay! And 2 more in progress. I think I'll pick two more to paint and have a set of 6 - no particular reason, I just like sets of 6! I love the colors in this one - variations of Permanent Magenta - my new favorite of the Schmincke set I have! The background is a little on the wild side - negative painting over the 3 primary colors. It's mostly flower, so I think it's not too over powering. Wishing you all a Happy Easter with you and your families!!!
